The Indian Navy has mobilized its Boeing P8I maritime surveillance aircraft and a warship to assist in the search for survivors from the MV Prestige Falcon, an oil tanker that sank off the coast of Oman on July 15. Of the 16 crew members aboard, 13 are Indian nationals, along with three Sri Lankan crew members.
The vessel capsized approximately 25 nautical miles southeast of Ras Madrakah, prompting immediate action. An Indian Navy warship, which was previously stationed in the region, was swiftly dispatched to aid in the rescue mission.
Search operations are being conducted in collaboration with Omani authorities, though conditions at sea are challenging due to strong winds and rough waters. The P8I aircraft is equipped with advanced radar and sensors, allowing for real-time data sharing with command centers in India and the deployed warship. The Oman Maritime Centre confirmed the tanker’s capsizing late last evening, and efforts to locate the missing crew members are ongoing
