Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi reported that the situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China is “stable” but “not normal,” highlighting ongoing sensitivity. Speaking at the ‘Chanakya Dialogue’ seminar, he emphasized the need to restore conditions to pre-April 2020 levels, addressing issues like troop deployments and buffer zones. General Dwivedi noted that while diplomatic discussions continue, the military must translate these into actionable plans on the ground, particularly regarding disputes in Depsang and Demchok. He criticized China’s infrastructure developments as “artificial settlements” and reiterated India’s commitment to upgrading its own border villages through a new program launched in April 2023, aimed at enhancing 662 villages.
