President Joe Biden staunchly defended Vice-President Kamala Harris’s capabilities to lead the nation during a high-profile press conference yesterday. Amid growing calls for Biden, 81, to reconsider his candidacy following recent debate stumbles, he reiterated his confidence in Harris, labeling her as “qualified to be the president.”
“I made no bones about it from the very beginning,” Biden asserted, emphasizing his decision to choose Harris based on her achievements and skills. He praised her advocacy on women’s rights and her proficiency in handling a wide range of issues, citing her background as a prosecutor and senator.
Harris, 59, made history as the first black South Asian American woman elected as Vice-President in 2020.
Biden’s comments come at a pivotal moment in the race for the White House, with the President facing scrutiny over his performance against Republican rival Donald Trump. Despite challenges, Biden remained resolute about his candidacy, emphasizing his belief in being the most qualified contender.
With the campaign intensifying, Biden underscored his determination to press forward. “There’s a long way to go in this campaign and so I’m just going to keep moving,” he affirmed, signaling his intent to continue the fight for reelection this November.
