New Delhi/Panjab Post
A Delhi court has ordered Aam Aadmi Party MLA Amanatullah Khan to remain in judicial custody for 14 days as part of a money-laundering investigation. Special Judge Rakesh Syal issued the order on Monday, setting Khan’s custody period until September 23.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) requested the court for judicial custody, stating that Khan, who had been held in ED custody for seven days, was not needed for further questioning at this time. The ED expressed concerns that Khan could interfere with witnesses and obstruct the ongoing investigation if released. They also accused him of being non-cooperative during his previous detention.
Khan’s legal team opposed the request for judicial custody, arguing for his release under specific conditions. Khan was detained on September 2 under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) following a raid at his Okhla home. The ED reported that Khan had been evasive when questioned during the search, which led to his arrest.
