In a significant escalation, Israeli warplanes launched their most extensive strikes on southern Lebanon in nearly a year late Thursday, intensifying the ongoing conflict with Hezbollah. This surge in military action comes after a series of earlier attacks attributed to Israel that resulted in 37 fatalities and approximately 3,000 injuries in Lebanon. The U.S. has expressed urgent concerns, with White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre emphasizing the need for a diplomatic resolution. Britain has called for an immediate ceasefire between the two sides. Following Thursday’s operations, Israel’s military reported targeting around 100 rocket launchers and other positions in southern Lebanon, marking the heaviest aerial bombardment since the conflict began in October.
Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah condemned the prior device explosions—allegedly linked to Israeli operations—as crossing “all red lines,” asserting they could be viewed as war crimes. While Israel has not officially commented on these incidents, reports suggest they were carried out by the Mossad spy agency. In a letter to the U.N. Security Council, Lebanon accused Israel of using technology to conduct what they termed a “technological war.” Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati urged the Council to take decisive action against Israel’s actions. The situation remains fluid, with the Security Council scheduled to convene Friday to discuss the recent developments.
