In a surprising twist in the presidential race, Vice President Kamala Harris has gained a lead over former President Donald Trump, according to a recent USA TODAY/Suffolk University Poll. With President Joe Biden temporarily out of the spotlight, Harris has capitalized on the opportunity to close the enthusiasm gap with the GOP and reduce Trump’s lead on key issues like the economy and immigration.

The poll highlights a notable shift in support among crucial Democratic demographics, such as Hispanic, Black, and younger voters. Particularly striking is the change among those earning less than $20,000 annually, where Harris has flipped a three-point deficit from June into a substantial 23-point lead over Trump by August. Currently, Harris leads Trump 48% to 43%, reflecting a significant boost in her campaign.
