West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee refuted claims that she offered financial aid to the family of the RG Kar Hospital rape-murder victim. Banerjee clarified at a Kolkata press conference that while she visited the victim’s family, she did not offer money but discussed potential compensation as per court directives. She also addressed the Durga Puja honorarium issue, stating that Puja committees rejecting the Rs 85,000 government grant in protest will be replaced with new ones. Regarding the ongoing protests by junior doctors and the public, Banerjee criticized the unauthorized road blockades and reiterated the Supreme Court’s request for doctors to resume work. She expressed willingness to meet with a small delegation of protesting doctors to discuss their concerns.
