Microsoft responded to a widespread global outage impacting operations for airlines, banks, and businesses worldwide, citing an issue stemming from a third-party software platform update. A spokesperson for the company acknowledged the disruption and expressed confidence in an impending resolution.

“We’re aware of an issue affecting Windows devices due to an update from a third-party software platform,” the spokesperson stated. “We anticipate a resolution is forthcoming.”

The outage caused significant disruptions across various sectors, including airports and airlines, which experienced issues with online check-in and boarding processes. Several users reported encountering ‘Blue Screen of Death’ error messages, prompting frustration on social media platforms.

Despite the widespread impact, India’s largest lender State Bank of India confirmed that its systems remained unaffected by the outage. Stock exchanges NSE and BSE also reassured that their operations were not disrupted due to the Microsoft system outage.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw assured that the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITY) was coordinating with Microsoft to address the issue. He noted that the National Informatics Centre (NIC) network remained unaffected by the outage.

In a statement on social media, Minister Vaishnaw disclosed that the root cause had been identified and updates were being rolled out to resolve the issue. The Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) issued a technical advisory, categorizing the severity of the situation as “critical.”

“MEITY is in touch with Microsoft and its associates regarding the global outage… NIC network is not affected,” Minister Vaishnaw confirmed.

As businesses and users await a fix, the IT ministry and CERT-In continue to monitor developments closely, emphasizing the importance of swift resolution to mitigate further disruptions.
