Former President Donald Trump has raised concerns about the looming threat of World War III, asserting that his leadership is crucial to preventing such a global catastrophe. Speaking during a town hall hosted by Fox News’ Sean Hannity in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Trump claimed that the current administration’s handling of nuclear and other weapons could lead the world into a major conflict. “We’re heading into World War III territory,” Trump warned, attributing this risk to the power of nuclear weapons and other military arsenals. He emphasized that his presidency would avoid such a scenario, contrasting his approach with what he describes as the current administration’s mishandling. Trump cited Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s endorsement, who allegedly said, “Everybody was afraid of Trump, you bring him back, you’re not going to have any problems. It’s all going to go away.” Trump defended Orban’s strongman tactics, suggesting that sometimes such leadership is necessary.
Discussing his own record, Trump highlighted the nuclear program upgrades undertaken during his tenure, expressing dissatisfaction with the necessity of modernizing the arsenal. He also criticized the current administration’s approach to international conflicts, including the war in Ukraine, the Gaza conflict, and the October 7 Hamas attack on Israel, claiming these crises would not have occurred under his presidency. Trump, who previously withdrew from the Iran nuclear agreement, stated that he would have negotiated a “fair deal” with Iran had he been in office. As he campaigns for the upcoming election, he and Democratic rival Kamala Harris are locked in a tight race in Pennsylvania, a crucial swing state. The general election is set for November 5, with early voting starting September 16 in some areas. Both Trump and Harris are preparing for their upcoming debate, which is expected to be the only one between them.
