New York/Panjab Post
A New York judge has postponed the sentencing of former President Donald Trump on charges related to hush money payments until November 26. This delay moves the sentencing beyond the November 5 election, addressing Trump’s request for the postponement. Originally set for September 18, the new date allows Trump, the Republican presidential candidate, to avoid legal proceedings during the election cycle. Trump’s legal team argued in August that the original date did not provide enough time for a potential appeal of Judge Juan Merchan’s anticipated decision regarding Trump’s conviction, especially in light of the Supreme Court’s recent 6-3 ruling on presidential immunity. This ruling clarified that sitting presidents cannot be prosecuted for actions taken in their official capacity, nor can such actions be used in criminal cases related to unofficial conduct.
