The U.S. military has turned down requests from a state agency to enhance monitoring and reduce the impact of sonic booms from SpaceX rockets launched from Vandenberg Space Force Base. This decision has sparked frustration among local officials and heightened tensions between the U.S. Space Force and the California Coastal Commission, the state agency responsible for protecting the coastline. SpaceX, a key partner of Space Force, is pushing to significantly increase its launch frequency from the Santa Barbara County base. Although SpaceX has not sought direct approval from the commission, discussions have been ongoing as Space Force negotiates a plan to permit 36 launches this year, up from the previously agreed-upon number.
