Ukraine faced a barrage of Russian long-range drone attacks overnight, with a total of 67 drones launched against the country. Ukrainian Air Force officials reported that air defenses successfully intercepted 58 of these drones, while three additional drones were neutralized by electronic warfare systems.
Drone debris was discovered outside Ukraine’s parliament, the Verkhovna Rada. Despite the close call, authorities confirmed no casualties or damage to the building itself.
The latest wave of drone attacks follows a surge in long-range assaults over the past week. On Tuesday, a missile strike on a military academy and hospital in Poltava resulted in 55 deaths and 328 injuries. The tragedy was compounded by another attack on Lviv the following day, which claimed seven lives, including a mother and her three daughters. This strike marked a rare assault on a city relatively distant from the ongoing front lines, deeply affecting the community.
The persistent attacks highlight Russia’s advanced long-range strike capabilities as Ukraine prepares for the challenges of an approaching winter. Russian strikes have severely damaged Ukraine’s power infrastructure, with around 70% of generation capacity knocked out, affecting heating and water supplies across the nation.
In response, Ukraine has conducted its own strikes. On Saturday, a drone attack on Voronezh, a Russian border region, ignited a fire and triggered explosions. Voronezh Governor Aleksandr Gusev announced a state of emergency in the Ostrogozhsky district, leading to the evacuation of several villages. Gusev requested that residents avoid sharing images or videos of the incident online to prevent geolocation of sensitive areas.
